6 months!

Saturday marked our 6 month anniversary. In some ways it's hard to believe it's been that long, but at the same time it feels like we've been in Cali for a long time. In honor of our 6 months together, I came up with 6 things I hear the most from Kyle:

1) "Ugghhh...I'm SO full my stomach hurts." And then, 9 times out of 10 he proceeds to clear his plate or mine. Especially at restaurants-I don't think he likes to pay for food and then leave it sitting there.

2) "I'll do the dishes." He always insists on doing the dishes, even if he's worked all day long and I've had the day off.

3) "Oh man, why did I sleep so late?" I hear this even if it's only 7am-he usually sets his alarm for 6. He's the most productive person I've ever known. He wakes up early and goes to the gym, comes home and reads scriptures, makes phone calls and takes care of other things for school and work, then leaves for work and is usually gone until 7 or 8. Any spare time on Fridays and Saturdays is spent doing homework. I really admire him for his hard work. We found out yesterday that his student teaching is officially approved-he will be starting in August at a high school in Redlands (15 min away) which we are very excited about.

4) "You spent $ ___ on groceries?" He never gives me a hard time or is mad about it, but he's always surprised at how much it costs. He used to spend $20 a week on groceries-he literally lived on bread, eggs, milk, string cheese, bananas, chicken, and rice. He would probably be okay with eating like that again, but I need variety! And by variety I mean actual meals, which definitely means more money.

5) "How was your day?" This is a phrase that will never get old. It's great to know he cares about each day of mine and how it goes. I love hearing about his day also. After working with 70 and 80 year olds all day he usually has a good story or two. They can be pretty rude to him sometimes, but his positive attititude never ceases to amaze me. A lady can give him the finger, or even chase after him to his car, and he laughs. I almost cry just hearing about it.

6) "I love you." Kyle is such a sweet husband and he shows his love for me all the time, but it's still great to hear those three words. I love him so much and hope someday we'll be alive to celebrate 6 decades together.

I asked him to name some things I say a lot and this is what he said:

1) "Stop cleaning!" Weird I know, but since he's so busy with school and work and I'm so NOT busy with work, it doesn't make any sense for him to do the cleaning when I have so much time on my hands. Not to mention it makes me feel ultra lazy when he squeezes it in among 20 other things, while I have nothing else to do. He used to sneak it in while I was gone, but now, especially on days I know he has a lot to do, I make him promise he won't clean anything.

2) "Don't do the laundry." I know, I know. I promise I'm not as controlling as I sound-it's just that I'm super picky about how my laundry is done. I like the colors separated, such as whites, grays/blues, pinks/reds, and darks. (He throws everything in together!) But more importantly, I hang about a third of my clothes up to dry to prevent shrinkage, so it's just easier and safer if I do the laundry.

3) "PLEASE, don't do the laundry!" He's so funny isn't he?

4) "Will you pop my back?" He's pretty darn good at this. I don't let anyone else do it.

5) "Ewww delete that picture."

Forest Falls

Since my parent's visit, we have discovered so many things we wish we would have done with them. I gave a massage to a lady in my aerobics class at the gym and went to her house in Forest Falls which is pretty close to us. On the way, just three minutes from our apartment, I found this:

No mom, I didn't take these while I was driving. I brought the camera a week later when Kyle and I drove to a campground in the mountains near Forest Falls and made tin foil dinners with our friends Cody and Laura and their kids, Max and Layla. It was so pretty and lots of fun. Next time we want to camp for a night. We always have a blast with the Shirley's.

I guess the combination of tin foil dinners and marshmellows reminded Laura and I about Girl's camp and the game "Chubby Bunny"....

Which led to a challenge between Kyle and Cody once we taught them the rules of the game...

Which led to this.

San Diego

We've been pretty busy the last month or so, and I have lots of pictures to post. My goal is to post something every day for a while.

When people ask us when we want to start having have kids and we tell them not yet, it's because we're enjoying weekends like this: about a month ago we went to San Diego for the night, just for the heck of it. I've always wanted to see the San Diego temple up close because the pictures always look amazing. It's only 2 hours away, but we made a little trip out of it. I wanted to be spontaneous and sleep on a beach somewhere under the stars-it sounded so romantic until Kyle started telling me about scary people that live on the beach and the possible things that could happen to us. Needless to say, when he admitted that HE would be scared, I quickly changed my mind. So we booked a resort on the beach and did some sightseeing on the way. The trip didn't turn out quite the way we expected, but we still had fun and are glad we went. First of all, we got to our "resort" and found that it was not quite as nice as the internet made it look. The rooms are individual little buildings which was kind of cool, but they weren't in super high quality condition. It was very cool, however, to be just yards from the ocean. They did have a large pool and hot tub, and they also had a seal pool which was fun. They have 2 seals, and how weird is it that one of them is named Gracie and we went to the seal pool just moments before our niece Gracie was born?? The real bummer of the trip was arriving at the temple and finding this:

At least it wasn't closed. Just caged. I guess they're cleaning it. The inside was beautiful though. And I didn't feel too sorry for myself after I met someone that got married there! I guess they sent them a letter back in Feb to let them know, but by then all the arrangments were made and it was too late to change them. Bummer! For those of you who haven't seen the San Diego temple...it usually looks something like this:

One of our favorite things we did was visit the USS Midway museum. We were able to walk around the USS Midway, which was an aircraft carrier of the US Navy and was first to be commissioned after the end of WWII. It was used in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. It was really neat. On top they have tons of actual planes and rescue helicpters from the 2 wars, and some we could even walk inside. We were amazed at all the buttons and controls. They gave us each headphones and a little recorder thing and at each exhibit (plane, etc) if we wanted to hear about it we just pressed a button. They had around 65 exhibits, from planes to bedrooms and bathrooms on the ship. It was really interesting. It made me appreciate what so many people have gone through to fight for our freedom. We only saw some of the "nicer" bedrooms and bathrooms for the officers and they were pretty small quarters. We wished we would have had time to tour the rest. (We should have learned after our trip to LA to keep more quarters in the car for parking.) I thought the barber shop was really neat, and also the laundry room and hospital. These are only a few of our pictures. After Kyle mentioned that it would be cool to show pictures to his students someday, I managed to capure every plane, helicopter, and room on the ship.

The ship is so large it was impossible to get a picture of the whole thing. I stole these from the internet:

And the best part: the backyard:

Last but not least, we went to one of our new favorite restaurants La Casa de Reyes in Old Towne San Diego. We went there with my parents when they visited and it's soooo good. They have Mariachi players that walk around outside and play for you.

I really need to learn how to do picture collages....
